Fight Poverty, not the Poor

What has Princess Pupatello done for Windsor West?
She was first elected in 1995, since then, hhmm well....uuhhh........oh ya she voted herself a raise, after her and her cronies voted against raising minimum wage to a measly $10.00/hr.

She has been the darling of the spotlight for so long now she is blind to the needs of her constituents. So many people I have talked to in the Windsor area were ignored, or treated like crap for her I really don't know why she's been in office this long.

I remember a few years ago just after she was given the social services portfolio, I ran into her at a fund raiser here in Windsor. The "Black Tie Bingo" It was a fairly big event with lots of V.I.P.'s in attendance. She was one of them. Anyways I approached her in the hallway and introduced myself, and said listen I understand you were given the social services portfolio, there are a lot of things about the system that need to be changed, if you would like to have some input from real people who are affected by the system, to get real feedback, let me know, I've had to deal with it in the past, and people I know are struggling with it right now. I think we can lend some valuable insight. She looked at me like I was contagious, took my card, and mumbled something incoherent as she scooted away. No I never got a call and no she didn't help change anything for the better.

I came across an interesting article here on cyberspace put there by the "Ontario Women's Justice Network" that talks about how her idea of helping the poor is tightening up the purse strings and making harder for people to get assistance with the special diet allowance, which many people with special health and dietary needs require.

The OWJN also mentioned how the government needs to put an end to the NCBS claw backs on social services payments. What? You ask?

NCBS is a supplement to the Child Tax Benefit, it was introduced in an election year by the Federal Liberal Party, to help low income families cope with the cost of childcare, and expenses. It was supposed to be one step to eliminate child poverty. Well the bill was passed. Yippee!!!!

HOWEVER when the federal government makes the transfer payments to the provinces the province then claws back the NCBS. If you have 3 kids that can mean a $325.00/month off of any type of social assistance payments. Wait a minute here, wasn't that money meant for low income families???? The why is that the lowest income families never actually get that money.

For people who do work but aren't making enough to be completely cut off of social assistance it can make the difference of receiving even a small cheque so that at least you have a drug card, or not getting any money that month.

These claw backs also affect people who are on disability (ODSP) and don't bother commenting if all you have to say to those on Ontario Works (formerly known as Welfare) is get a job you bum.
Not everyone on assistance is lazy, stupid, drug addicted, wife beating, child abusing scum!
Most are just people like you and me who've been kicked in the teeth by life, and need a little help getting on their feet. Some have disabilities, and not all disabilities are visible, so people please, have some compassion.

People on assistance would be extremely lucky if they pulled in $1000.00/month from all sources of revenue, maybe 1300 if they work part time as well. That's $12,000.00 - 15,600/year. That means in Ontario alone there are over 400,000 people living anywhere from $400 to $4,000 BELOW the POVERTY LINE!!!!! That is pathetic people!!!!! The poverty line was recently established as somewhere around $16,000.00/yr Let see Princess P live on less than poverty for a few years, without access to her trust fund, or mommy and daddy's money, and lets see how much she enjoys it!!!!!!

There will be a provincial election this year, lets send them a clear message, vote them out!!!!! If you live in the Windsor West riding, you have to vote her out!!!!!!!

The only party that gives a damn about the little guys is the NDP, when I met Brian Masse (yes I know he's federal) at another function, I was blown away by how sincere and "real" he is. He didn't know me from a hole in the wall, but he actually gave me the time of day, and answered some of my questions. Over time I met him at several different fund raisers and community events, the more I saw the more I wanted to be involved with the party. Then the last federal election was called and I volunteered to work on his campaign. He and Joe Comartin are doing an excellent job for OUR community. I hope to see them in office for a long time.

Provincially however, the NDP needs your support! I need your support! Who am I? It doesn't matter at this point. What matters here is that I am a person just like you who is sick of struggling for every step I take only to get knocked back three steps. I am an NDP member, and supporter, I am currently getting ready to go to Toronto for the provincial convention, where I will be fighting with everything in me to get this issue about the NCBS claw backs a part of the party platform. What can you do to help, it's easy, call your local NDP office or e-mail them and tell them you want to this become a part of their platform. Then next fall when the election is called get out to your polling stations and VOTE NDP. Its time for real change, if you live in Windsor West look out I just might be running. I just might seek nomination, and if it's at all possible I will run for office. I won't be your typical politician,I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I know what it's like for the average Ontarian who struggles with making ends meet. It's not right, and I will do everything in my power to make this province a better place for everyone! I believe that its time for us to have a government that is truly working for the people!

We have to be at war against poverty, not at war against the poor!!
